After school art class is a great way to explore the themes and modalities that interest your child. Classes incorporate painting, sculpture, collage, photography, drawing, video and construction to name a few. While the classes are taught in age appropriate groups, there is also the opportunity to gain some specialised one-on-one time with our in-house tutors. What’s more, we supply all the equipment and a refreshing afternoon tea!
Using a ‘framework for freedom’ in which children are given choices and encouraged to make their own decisions children learn to express themselves, build self-esteem and have fun. The small numbers allow for one-on-one time and specialised art tutoring in age appropriate group
AGE GROUPS
Juniors: 4 to 7
At this age, the child’s natural talents are already there to be discovered and developed. Sometimes a little guidance can help, but every child has their own sense of colour, design and dramatic story-telling. Children respond to the tutors encouragement and enthusiasm and the potential for discovery is at their fingertips with lots of high quality art materials in beautiful colours …all at the right size for young artists.
Intermediate: 8 to 12
This can be a confusing time of rapid growth, loss of confidence, peer group pressure and an overall changing world view. As a result, precious talents can be lost along the way. We work with the children and focus on nurturing their current talents while accommodating their new way of relating to the world. More of an emphasis is placed on accurate drawing, realism and close observation in age relevant topics. This can involve still life, design, landscape, portraits and much more.
Advanced: 13 to 15
In the advanced group it’s important to cement and build on the wide range of styles and subjects previously encountered before introducing a wide range of new techniques. A more sophisticated approach incorporates art history and theory to encourage a deeper interest in the arts. At this stage we encourage exploration of the students interests and development of their own personal styles.

Term Programme classes take place on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons and each term runs for eight weeks.

- 3.45pm – 5.30pm (afternoon tea at 3.30pm)

Exhibitions
At the end of every term, an exhibition of artworks created during the term is held on the Friday evening for family and friends.
2011 CREATIVE KIDS Annual Exposé
The Annual Exposé is a painting, sculpture and mixed media exhibition open to not only Arts Therapy (NZ) Trust programme participants, but also the wider community.
