This week we’ve have moved into new premises at Level 2, 81 New North Rd, Eden Terrace. If you’ve been participating in programmes with us for a while, the new space is only 100m down the road from our first building. The Mental Health Foundation is in the same building.

We are very excited about this move as it takes us further along the path of our strategic plan and has many great features just right for the next step.

We have 5 car spaces at the front of the building on New North Rd. Look out for the ‘Hand’. We also have more carparks at the back of the building down the driveway directly behind the building. The building has a lift so is suitable for wheel-chair access.

Our new premises has therapy rooms and a large studio space with lovely big windows all around teh rooms giving us an almost 360 degree view of Auckland.

We begin our usual Creative Kids! programmes in the space on Monday 18th October and continue to have Yoga and Feldenkrais in the evenings.

Therapy rooms and the studio space are available to hire at affordable rates for individuals or community groups. We hope to see you soon.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the Secret Garden event which took place on September 26-27. The studio was transformed by children and the community into a secret garden where visitors could watch and listen to birds, play with sand, make a wish and enjoy the ambience.

We would like to thank all the Sponsors; Lottery Community Grant, Kings Plant Barn St Lukes, Palms Direct, Fosters NZ Group, Digital Sparks and Hammer Hardware Dominion. We also want to thank everyone who gave their time, unwanted bits and pieces, and creativity to us so that we could transform the studio into a garden. The support was wonderful.

A big thanks to all the children who contributed art works and helped fill the space. The studio looked fantastic and when you walked through the doors you really were stepping into a garden.

The paintings by Spark Studios were fabulous and its a shame more of them didn’t sell.

Thank you Chris for the enormous wishing tree, Helen for the beautiful fresh flowers, Annie and Sarah for being fyling trapeze birds, Mike for the fabulous star black and Norman for the atmospheric sound track.

And last but not least, thanks to all the hard workers who helped set up and pack down. We couldn’t have done it without you and the space looked amazing!

The “Secret Garden” is a multi-media community arts event exploring the concept of the garden in art and the notion of transformation through nature.

The event involves transforming the studio space at Arts Therapy (NZ) Trust into a garden through the use of visual art, sound, video, photography, sculpture and performance.

The intention of this event is to heighten people’s awareness of their relationship to nature and its importance in their lives, for instance, hearing birdsong out of context in a studio makes one more aware of its presence or lack of presence in the natural environment.

The event brings different elements of the community together around the theme of arts meets ecology and stimulating the imagination and empowerment around environmental issues.

The garden is “secret”, highlighting the creative imagination, special places of growth and transformation, a place of healing and worship.

Being “secret” creates a sense of surprise and wonder when entering the space, and witnessing the transformation of an industrial space into an organic environment is magical.

Sat 26th and Sunday 27th of September from 6pm to 10pm.
